The Scottish Heritage Society of Eastern North Carolina, Incorporated, a non-profit organization, is dedicated to the perpetuation and enjoyment of the history and culture of Scotland handed down to her descendants in Eastern North Carolina and to support of activities of an educational nature which promote and enhance our common Scottish heritage.

The purposes of the organization are:

  1. To foster Scottish tradition, customs and culture.
  2. To acquire and dispense charitable and educational assistance through a fund set up to underwrite worthy projects and scholarships, including grants to individuals and groups.
  3. To promote, celebrate and commemorate Scottish events.

Becoming a member

A note on the tartan used on this site. This is the Carolina Tartan, adopted as the State Tartan by the North Carolina legislature in 1991 and by the South Carolina legislature in 2002. For more information on this tartan please go to this website.

The Calendar has been updated.  Please check as some dates have had to be changed.

ROBERT BURNS NIGHT 56 members and guests celebrated the life and time of Robert Burns at the Chelsea on January 23.  Photos are posted in Scots at Play.  The haggis this year was homemade and received a lot of compliments.  If you are interested in trying for yourself, we have posted the recipe here.

BUS TRIP TO NORFOLK TATTOO 
Gordon McLeod has proposed a bus trip to Norfolk VA to attend the 2010 Tattoo.  Bus and ticket will cost $75.00 -$85.00 per person and $60.00 - $70.00 for students under 25.  See the Calendar for more details.

LATEST NEWS!!  
The new Scottish Register of Tartans is now online. This is a national repository of tartan designs maintained by the National Archives of Scotland, an executive agency of the Scottish Government.

FINANCIAL AID

Financial Aid for 2010 is closed.  Next applications for 2011 are due by December 1, 2010 . Full details and application form are available on the Financial Aid page.
